Saturday 2/17/18 - San Diego - Picked up Burt & Joan at the airport and got settled in. In the afternoon we visited Cabrillo National Monument which preserves a 1890 lighthouse built atop of 400 ft hill overlooking the San Diego harbor. The lighthouse was used for 36 years then shuttered when it was decided to move the lighthouse the bottom of the cliff. Too many times the old lighthouse was caught in the fog and ineffective. The location was also used in both WWI & WWII as a military base then eventually the NPS gained control. The location sports great views back to the city.

A National Military Cemetery is also located on the site overlooking San Diego.
