4/19/18 Last day in Wahweap NP, Lake Powell Glen Canyon area - the day started overcast and a bit cool. Where is the warm weather?? Today we took a "Jeep" Tour of Antelope Slot Canyon. The Jeeps were 1 ton pick-ups and in fact a whole fleet of them. So much for a one on one walk through the slot.
Basically the water runoff from rain storms & snow melts flow through the wash below which is about 100 feet or so wide.
It gets interesting when the water runoff reaches the sandstone formation right in the middle of the wash and is forced through. Water over the centuries has cut a narrow slot through the sandstone creating curves, turns and twists through the stone. The area is know for flash floods that come from as far away as 20 miles. Over the years people have been caught in the slot during a flash flood by surprised and have died. The force of the water in a flood must be amazing  at 100 feet wide force through the opening and cutting through the rock.

Just about to enter the "Slot"

The pictures below are in the slot which is about 1/2 mile long and 100 feet or so tall.

The picture below was taken by our tour guide looking up in such way to catch the light looking like a dragons eye. Pretty cool picture.

The picture below is sand sniffing through the opening in the top of the canyon. Needless to say we were pretty sandy once we got out.

Just amazing how the water has carved the slot in the canyon rock. It was so interesting and in a way beautiful.
We capped off our last night in the Lake Powell area with dinner out at the Rainbow room at the Wahweap Lodge.
