4/24/18 Grand Canyon, AZ Matt and Sammy returned from their mule ride to the bottom of the canyon. There were many stories of hair-raising sheer cliffs, narrow paths, but a great time was had. The ride down includes three tunnels, and a very narrow bridge with two planks for the mules to cross the Colorado River. Their overnight stay included a steak dinner and their own cabin with running water and a/c. Temps in the canyon were 100 to 110 despite 75 degrees that Wendy and I enjoyed at the rim.
Views on the way down the 1st day
When stopping the mules turn facing the canyon

Half way stopping point for lunch and needed time off  of the mule.

                                                               Back in the saddle

                                                              Still heading down

                                                        Finally reached the Colorado

Just when Matt & Sammy thought they experienced it all, the mules entered a long tunnel and came directly out to a bridge crossing the river.

Made it!

Phantom Ranch

View of the bridge they will take in the morning.

Sunrise from the base of the canyon
Getting ready to head up and out

Pack mules bringing supplies into camp. Yep no road for resupply!

They made in back around 1:00 pm

In the afternoon we took a shuttle bus to Hermits Ridge, the far end of the Grand Canyon.

View of the Colorado from the bus

                                                           Views from the ridge
Cool building, Hermit's Rest, constructed in 1905 to blend in with the canyon. Note the tall fireplace.
