Our first stop at Canyonlands was the Visitor Center and the view directly across was from the VC was awesome. Wendy is pointing to a road (not a trail) about 200 feet below the rim that is literally right on the edge of an 1,300 ft drop. Yikes! I put my foot down and told everyone no way were we driving on this road.
We continued on to Mesa Arch which at first doesn't look all that impressive in comparison to what we saw at Aches NP. However this arch is past the side of the cliff so when you look down you are looking down 1300 ft to the bottom of the canyon. There is only a small shelf holding this thing up and the arch has separated from the face of the cliff.
Against my better judgement Wendy clung onto a portion of the Arch. NOT!
This is the view through the Arch. Amazing
Separation from the edge of the cliff, to the right is the cliff, left is the arch.
Next we hiked 2 miles on Grand View Rim which for the most part was pretty level along the rim of the canyon. While we were hiking it went from really grey skies to sunny blue skies. Perfect hike temps as well.
Does this look a bit dangerous to you? Sheer cliffs 1300 ft to the bottom.
Alan taking a breather.
Hiking along the way.
I joined up with another guy and we jumped the big rocks hanging over the canyon. Actually took the shot watching these two and was afraid I might catch their demise.
I couldn't resist taking a pic of this Citron which I think dates back to early 60's/late 50's. According to their stickers on the back this car has been on every continent.
Next up was Dead Horse State Park and vistas from the parking area. NO HIKE! The river at the bottom of the canyon is the Colorado which according to the message board cuts the canyon by 7 to 8 inches every 1000 years.
