4/20/18 Travel day from Lake Powell UT to Grand Canyon AZ. The day started out rainy which continued off and on all day. We are anxiously awaiting Sammy, Lucy and Matt's arrival tomorrow in Flagstaff.

Along the way we did stop at Moenkopi Dinosaur Tracks near Tuba City AZ (in the middle of nowhere). This stop is on the Navajo Reservation and is acres of dinosaur tracks, bones, skulls. The tribe has not let any archaeologist dig in the area despite calls from the Smithsonian etc. The tracks are in what was the shoreline of an ancient sea bed and are slowly exposed as the sandstone is uncovered by wind and rain. There are hundreds of foot prints and bones. The area is very large and you can visibly see the tracks and skulls but also back bones, hip bones and the like. It was a worthwhile stop despite pretty cold and rainy weather.
                                                             Pterodactyl foot print
Dinosaur turtle eggs lodged in the stone. We saw the outline of the turtle just feet from the eggs.

T Rex footprint The back of the shoes are at the heel of the foot print and the shoe toe is the start of the T-Rex toes. BIG!!

Pterodactyl Skull. I could feel the teeth inside of the mouth.

Our trip up the mountain to the East Gate of the Grand Canyon turned out to be hair-raising as we ran into a full fledged snow storm near the top, just before the park gate. The temps dropped to 32 degrees and the roads quickly became snow covered and icy. I dropped the truck into 4 wheel drive and we managed to continue up the grade without much difficulty other then nerves. Wendy never knitted so fast as she was trying not to stress out or look.

Once we crested to the summit the weather cleared and so did the road, Whew! On the way down we stopped at a couple of scenic views and took some great shots of the canyon.
Turned out to be a blue bird day down at the main area of Grand Canyon but still in the low 40's. Tomorrow is supposed to warm to the 70's in the afternoon.
