While waiting for the truck repair we toured Eureka a town known for its Victorian homes built in the gilded age (1890's). The house below was built in 1885 by William Carson a lumber tycoon. The home was a mere 14,000 square feet with a 100 feet tall tower. The building is now a private club , not open to the public. I can't imagine the cost to maintain a 163 year old wooden structure. Paint alone outside would cost a fortune.
The house below was built by Carson for his son upon is marriage. Not a bad deal for the son. The new owners of the house painted it pink and named it "Pink Lady". It is available as an Airbnb.
Nice hike to a water falls and the redwood forest. Interesting new tidbit - By the turn of the century only 4% of the original redwood forest remains. The protection of the forest in the 20's should hopefully preserve the forest for the future.
Wendy thought it would be funny to sneak up on me while I was trying to setup a self timed picture and as you can see I was surprised. The timer on the camer just happened to go off and capture the deed.
I am glad to see you all are still getting along with each other!
