3/19/18 - Final exploration of the Redwoods. Our young hikers started out strong but a 2.5 mile hike did them in.
Mark trying to scare us on the trail...... didn't work this time despite the effort.
This tree was logged likely at the turn of the century. What is interesting is the foot holes cut into the trees so the Loggers could stand about 10 feet up on the tree to saw. Why so high- I really don't know.
The picture below is interesting to see how the redwoods grow. It looks like an end of a separate very round tree but this was close to the center of a large redwood that had fallen down. The redwoods can take several hundred years to completely turn back to dirt.
Really the thing the boys wanted to do was to throw rocks into the river.
