3/2/18 Friday - Our Monterey campsite is right up against Marina Dunes State Park. Wendy went for a walk in the morning while I went into town for a hitch issue. The day started out clear and one of our warmest in days in a while. On Wendy's walk she ran across turkeys out for a stroll.
The weather headed south for the day so our drive on the Pebble Beach 17 mile drive was rainy at times. Interesting- Pebble Beach charges a $10.25 toll to enter the ocean point community. The ocean drive and immense homes were spectacular despite the weather. The picture below is the Iconic tree used as the Pebble Beach Golf Course logo.
Below are scenes from along the "17 Mile Drive" which is actually 8 miles long. Go figure.
Below is a tee box for a green across an ocean cut back. Although not the Pebble Beach famous hole at the "Club" it still was a very cool tee shot.
From Pebble Beach we wondered out to Big Sur ocean drive which may be the most beautiful and dangerous drive in America. Sheer cliffs to the Ocean which at some points were upwards of a 1,000 feet to the water. The CCC (Civilian Conservation Corp) in the early 30's carved the road bed from the cliffs, built bridges etc with steam shovels, picks and chain driven trucks. Pretty amazing accomplishment.
Yep a little windy for Wendy!
We enjoyed a nice dinner at Nepenthe restaurant on the Big Sur drive which overlooked the coastline from a loft 800 ft high. Great warm fire.
The view from our restaurant window. Incredible.
