3/3/18 Saturday continuation of exploring the Big Sur coast. We managed to get down the coast about 40 miles just about 10 miles from where the road has been closed for the past year. Today's weather was much better with mostly sun and warmer temps when the sun was out. We ventured down a very very narrow road to a National Forestry area - Pfeiffer Beach with sand that in spots was purple. Mineral deposits from the cliffs above. Amazing key holes in the large rocks in the ocean where the waves would crash through. Fun spot to visit.

Limeklin State Park - we hiked through a grove of pretty large Redwood trees on our hike to the Limeklin Falls. The mountain stream was quite swollen from all the rain the last few days so in spots crossing the stream was a challenge. Had to cross the stream 5 times to get to the falls.

                                                             Sights along the way.
A herd of cows were grazing at this keyhole spot above. Maybe this one cow appreciated how good she really had it.
Sights from the road.

The iconic Big Sur (Bixby Bridge) was constructed in 1932 by prisoners who wanted to shorten their jail time. I guess some engineers were prisoners as well?
                                                                Road side sights
California Condor - endanger species

This last section of the road we traveled was down to one lane due to a very large rock slide. Two way traffic was controlled by a stop light.
The tunnel below just past the rock slide area, I imagine, was designed to divert rock slides over the top of the road and into the ocean.
