Wednesday - Thursday 3/7 -3/8/18 Wednesday we spent the morning getting the 5th wheel hitch fixed. Good news it was still under warranty, bad news we had to travel 2 hours one way to the repair shop.

We did visit the John Muir's humble abode, a mere 10,000 square foot home with a cupola. Muir apparently was quite the inventor but his money was made from his 2400 acre fruit farm inherited from his father-in-law. Muir narrowed the crops to just cash crops and negotiated a rail line near the farm to ship the fruits all over the country. Muir born 1838 (died 1914 age 76) is considered the father of the National Park System with his work to protect Yosemite Valley and the Sequoia's, the oldest trees on earth, and Muir woods' stand of Redwoods to name a couple of his efforts.

This second floor room is where Muir penned many of his books on nature and his observations

On the way back to our home away from home we had the pleasure to have dinner Erich Raschid (Eagle Scout from Troop 92) and his significant girlfriend Amelia. Erich is a math teacher to high school students as well as "special" needs kids. He is perfect for this job, very passionate and well suited for the task of helping these kids. Erich and Amelia are a great couple loving life.

Thursday 3/8/18 - We headed out to Point Reyes National Park just 60 minutes north San Francisco. It is a 90,000 acre point on the ocean which includes a lighthouse, elk herd and amazing views. However, today the point was largely fogged in,no real sight of the lighthouse.

We did get a few great views on our hikes which were great and saw a grouping of elephant seals on the beach. Below is a picture of a model male seal from the visitor station. The males weigh up to 5,000 lbs, 15 +/- feet long, dive to depths of 5,500 feet for 90 minutes at a time.

We hiked the Chimney Rock trail to the far point in the below picture. I know you don't believe it but we did!
Amazingly we got cell service for about a minute.

Spring is starting to take hold here.

Trees overhang the road to the lighthouse. Small grouping of large trees which grew at a 45 degree angle due to the wind. No pictures of the lighthouse just to foggy.

On the way home Wendy snapped a cool picture of the fogged in Golden Gate Bridge.

  1. Did you drive the RV down the road to the lighthouse with the trees overhanging? It looks neat but that would be nerve-racking with the RV!
